This does not happen too often, but it did today! We were asked to supply a DIY Prior conservatory to a customer up North. Nothing particularly unusual in that so we designed it and got the go ahead from the customer. However, at the last moment the customer sounded a little awkward and asked us how he would seal the polycarbonate roof around a six inch soil pipe.
Normally this is one of the first things we are asked and the answer is simple. Firstly, can the pipe be redirected? In this case the answer was no. Secondly, how was the customer thinking of leak proofing the hole in the roof? Thirdly, we needed to know the exact position of the pipe in relation to the roof beams. The sealing is not too much of an issue as certain well known builders merchants have a rubber shroud which is used to seal the pipe and the roof.
The problem with this conservatory was that the roof spar was directly in line with the soil pipe! Also, the wall plate that fixes to the house wall would have to be cut because there was not enough room between the pipe and the wall to feed it past. We are still waiting for an executive decision from the customer as to how he wants to proceed!
