We supply our DIY conservatories unglazed. The reason for this is twofold. The first reason is that the frames are large and would be very hard to handle with the glass pre-installed. We make our conservatories in as few frames as possible. Therefore in a 4 metre by 4 metre conservatory, at least two of the frames would be 4metres long and up to 2.1 metres high. Also, they are steel reinforced and with the glass in, you would not be able to move them!
The second reason that we supply the frames unglazed is fitting. Our frames are screwed together, not clipped together like the cheaper conservatories. It would be impossible to do this part of the fitting with the glass units already in situ.
Glazing the windows of the conservatory is easy! The large glass units will be toughened and must be treated with great care whilst out of the frames. They must not touch anything hard like brick or concrete. The small toplight units are standard glass and not toughened. Please be aware that as the windows in your Prior conservatory are energy rated, the labels on the glass must be on the outside of the conservatory when fitting them. Refering to the fitting instructios, put the packers supplied in as per the diagrams and fit the unit into the frame. The top and bottom bead must go in first, followed by the side beads.
There is no need to give the bead a hefty clout as you will damage it. Using a rubber malletsuch as those made by Thor, gently tap the bead to start it in and work along until it has clipped into place. All very easy after the first one. When glaging the French doors, refer to the fitting instructions and pay particular notice as to the way the glazing packers are fitted. Get this wrong and the doors will not sit level. Done the correct way though, they will probably only require minimal adjustment.
