Here at Prior Conservatories we can usually come up with a bespoke solution to a conservatory design problem. However, with many years of experience behind us, we know when the design the customer wants has gone from being a DIY job to a professional fitters domain. Therefore we do occasionally explain to potential customers that the job that they are looking at will end in tears unless a fully qualified fitting team are involved. This obviously detracts from the whole point of a self build conservatory.
So with that in mind, we are perfectly happy to undertake the more interesting designs. A standard lean to or Edwardian conservatory is easy to design and more importantly, easy to erect, as long as the base work has been carried out properly. When full height walls loom into view, with the associated box gutters and variable window splits, it all becomes more fun. We will still design the structure to be as easy as possible to assemble given that there is more work involved with box gutters and the like.
Many of our customers want a full height wall on one side to stop the neighbours looking in. This is not recommended as it is very hard to seal the cill and roof onto a brick wall like this. What we recommend instread is that the wall is built to say 1700mm height and then a set of small fixed windows on a cill sit on top of this. The windows can easily be made obscure if needed and it is the best layout to ensure a good seal between the wall and cill and the frame tops and the roof.
