Designing your DIY conservatory is easy because we do the work for you! However, there are a number of options that do require some thought. The roofing material is one of them. There are two options - glass or polycarbonate. A lot of people see this as 'expensive' and 'cheap'.
However this is only part of the story. Both have advantages and drawbacks. Glass is without doubt more expensive, particularly if you go for self cleaning or the blue active vatiety. As a DIY'er, it is also much harder to handle and is fragile until fitted, even though it is toughened. It is also heavy! However, in a hail storm it is much quieter and you will not have to leave the conservatory until it stops.
Our 35mm polycarbonate roofing sheets are light, forgiving if you bump them whilst fitting, and available in a range of colour options plus heatguard - the latter reflects the sunlight off the conservatory and is ideal if you are South facing The insulating properties are not much different to 24mm glass units but you have guessed it, in a hail storm, you will hear it! The choice is up to you.
