French doors

Tuesday October 20, 2009 at 12:28pm

As most of our conservatories have opening out French doors, the position of the doors is important. If you intend to have opening windows to each side of the French doors, the door sashes will need to be fitted with 90 degree restrictors.

This will prevent the door sashes from swinging past the 90 degree position and hitting the open window sashes. Similarly, if the French doors are to be fitted next to the house wall, it is important that there are no drain pipes or other objects for the sashes to hit. The use of some form of soft buffer attached to the wall would avoid any damage if the door swung back against the wall.

If the conservatory is of the full height variety, with or without a panel in the bottom, the French doors can be opened right out to fold flat against the conservatory walls, and can be held in this position with hooks and eyes. This again always supposes that there are no opening window sashes to either side.
