Pilkington active self cleaning glass

Tuesday July 21, 2009 at 8:31pm
Pilkington Active:

Pilkington Active glass is effectively the same as conventional glass but with a specially developed coating on the outside that has a unique dual action. Once exposed to day light the coating chemically reacts in two ways.

Breaking down organic dirt:
Using a “photocatalytic” process, the coating reacts with ultra-violet rays present in natural daylight to break down and disintegrate organic dirt.

Washing dirt away:
The second part of the process happens when rainwater hits the glass. Pilkington Active is “hydrophilic”, which means that instead of forming droplets, the water spreads evenly.

Pilkington Active Glass – The Facts:

Will reduce the need to clean by using day light and rain
Will dry without streaks or spots
Will need 5 – 7 days to activate after installation
Will not work if thick dirt prevents UV reaching the glass
Will not remove inorganic dirt without water (in very dry conditions or freezing conditions)
